Nestled on the banks of the magnificent Vembanadu lake Kumarakom undoubtedly is one of the most sought after tourist destinations in God's own country. Emerald green paddy fields, coconut groves interspersed with enchanting waterways and canals and the presence of the world famous bird sanctuary close by makes kumarakom every tourist's dream destination

Bird sanctuary

Located on the banks of the Vembanadu Lake the Kumarakom bird sanctuary is an ornithologist's paradise and is a favourite haunt of migratory birds like Siberian stork, egret, darter, heron and teal. Other common varieties like the woodpecker, skylark, crane, water hens and parrots can also be spotted
Thirunakkara Mahadeva temple

In the heart of kottayam town is this 500-year-old temple built by the Thekkukumkur Maharajah. This temple built in Kerala style architecture has colorful murals on the walls, which are worth exploring. The Koothambalam here is one of the best to be found in Kerala.
Vaikom Siva temple
Situated at a distance of 40 kms from Kottayam town this temple is associated with the legendary Parasurama, and is a typical example of the Kerala style of temple architecture. More popularly known as the Kasi of the south, this temple is famous for its elephant pageants and traditional art performances
Kuttikkanam
This beautiful hill station in Idukki district nestled in the lap of the Western Ghats is a picturesque plantation town washed in the fragrance of cardamom. Surrounded by lush, green hills, pristine valleys and mountains this place is ideally suited for adventure tourism and trekking.
